Get to Know Virginia Criminal Defense Attorney Burkhardt Beale
An attorney dedicated to the defense of DUI/DWI, personal injury law and other areas of criminal law, criminal defense attorney Burkhardt Beale has been successfully representing his clients since 1980, when he was admitted to practice law in Virginia. He brings to the table more than just an impressive resume – he brings knowledge and experience to provide his clients with the best possible defense.
A lifetime resident of the Commonwealth of Virginia, Burk graduated from the University of Virginia in 1977 with a Bachelor of Arts degree. In 1980, he earned his degree from the Washington and Lee University School of Law.
Pursuing a career in criminal defense, Burk went on to the U.S. Court of Appeals, 4th Circuit and U.S. District Court, Eastern District of Virginia in 1981. Today, he has concentrated his practice on the areas of DUI law, traffic law and all types of law related to criminal defense matters. As DUI law is a specialized field, Burk found it necessary to become a certified breath test operator and a field sobriety test instructor conducting field sobriety tests by the National Highway Traffic Safety Association (NHTSA). He has even served as a co-author of “Defense of Serious Traffic Cases in Virginia,” published by Virginia CLE. In Virginia and nationally, he has lectured more than 75 times on DUI defense and is currently completing a book on DUI defense in Virginia.
So what kind of a criminal defense attorney is Burkhardt Beale? In four of his appellate cases, he was cited by either the annual Virginia Criminal Law Seminar or the bi-annual DUI and Other Serious Traffic Offenses seminar conducted by the Virginia CLE program as having the leading case of the year in the fields of traffic, criminal and DUI defense. These cases included Zimmerman v. Commonwealth, Taylor v. Commonwealth, Lash v. The County of Henrico and Basfield v. Commonwealth.
Today, Burk is a lifetime member of NACDL, a member of the VACDL and VTLA along with the Prince William County Bar Association. He is also one of only two founding members of the National College for DUI Defense (NCDD) from the Commonwealth of Virginia.
